5 Ways To Increase Guitar Speed And Accuracy With Any Solo

Are you having a hard time playing guitar solos with speed and accuracy to get them to sound exactly how you want?

Don’t worry.

This is very common.

Good news though:

You’re about to learn 5 powerful ways to get faster while becoming a cleaner guitarist in the process.

Most guitar players don’t know how to do these things and spend years struggling to get any better.

So here they are…

5 ways to increase your guitar speed and accuracy to play killer solos:

1. Break The Guitar Solo Down Into Sections

Break the guitar solo into sections based on phrases, techniques or random small groupings of notes that you can practice in bite-sized chunks.

This gives attention and focus to each section so you can master them separately before combining everything together.

This is good, because:

It’s much easier to practice in chunks this way than it is to try to master everything at once (which easily becomes overwhelming).

Once, you have broken things into small groupings of notes, apply another powerful practice approach to the mix to get crazy results:

Practice each section by focusing on both hands separately.

How do you do this?

Here’s how:

After practicing both hands separately, bring them together and slowly piece together each smaller grouping of notes until you are able to play the guitar solo perfectly note-for-note.

2. Focus On High Repetition Practice

It takes a lot of repetition before a good guitar playing habit can be formed.

Unfortunately, most guitar players do not practice a given item enough times to get the best results and make positive changes.

Don’t make their same mistake!

Work on each section of the guitar solo (that you chose from the previous point) using high repetition practice like in this video:

3. Pick Everything With More Power

Picking with heavy power articulates notes much better and helps you line up both hands in sync.

By picking the notes of your guitar solo with extra power, it also has the effect of making it feel easier when you play as normal.

Set aside time to practice picking with more power like this:

1.   Choose any guitar solo to work on.

2.   Practice just the first few notes using heavy picking power for several repetitions.

3.   Add several more notes and pick them with normal power, while still picking the first few with more power.

4.   Now, play all the current notes with heavy power.

5.   Add the next few notes and pick them with normal picking power.

6.   Continue like this until the entire solo has been played in this manner.

7.   Finally, switch between picking the entire item with extra power and normal power. Then go through and choose only a few notes at random to pick with power.

This exercise improves your ability to articulate notes clearly and play the guitar solo while improving your overall picking technique.

4. Practice Both Sitting And Standing

Being able to play a fast guitar solo while sitting down is MUCH easier than doing it while standing up, walking around or performing.

Master the guitar solo doing these things and you know you’ve mastered it at the highest level.

Practice walking around and “performing” the solo while playing. Do this in sections to make it easier.

5. Find Inconsistencies By Playing On Clean Settings

Practicing a guitar solo on clean settings really puts your skills to the test.

You no longer have distortion to help fill in the notes where your hands are slightly out of sync…

…and this is good!

Clean settings are a great practice asset for getting your hands in sync and making sure you play every note of the solo perfectly.

Use the concept of “accenting the first note” as shown in this video to get great results from clean settings practice:

(Note: This video uses distortion, but the concept applies to clean settings too)
